A holistic approach to content writing involves understanding the role content plays in the bigger picture — how content aligns with overall business, brand or marketing strategy. 

Applicable factors differ by type and purpose of content. Content writing considerations include:

  • Adopting a broad perspective: Where does content fit in with the larger brand story? How do different content streams flow and merge to create a single fluid narrative? How can the desired message be conveyed, while ensuring brand compliance?
  • Being results-oriented: What is the goal for content creation? How will content impact be measured? 
  • Being relevant: For whom is the content intended? How and where will it be consumed? 
  • Being aware: What are the competitor keywords used to achieve top search result placement? What are industry trends and best practices?
  • Striking the right balance: What level of detail should the content reflect without losing sight of the big picture?

Not all content requires detailed analysis. Selectively applying the appropriate aspects will determine content impact and effectiveness.
